Barbara Cubin
First woman elected to federal office from Wyoming.

A fifth-generation Wyoming resident, Barbara Cubin was raised in Casper.
She earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Creighton University.
Cubin has worked as a chemist, a social worker and a substitute teacher in
math and chemistry, and also managed her husband's medical practice office.
In addition she was an instructor in a math apprenticeship program for Vietnam
veterans and minorities at Casper College.

Over the years Cubin became involved in a number of political activities, which led to her 1986 election to the Wyoming State Legislature. She served in the Wyoming House of Representatives until 1992, and in the Wyoming Senate for two years before winning election to U.S. Congress.

Barbara Cubin was first elected in 1994 to represent Wyoming in the United States House of Representatives. In the 107th Congress, Cubin was selected by her peers as Republican Conference Secretary, the sixth-ranking Republican leadership position in the House. In the 110th Congress, Cubin serves as a member of the esteemed House Energy and Commerce Committee/ As a member of both the Health and Telecommunication subcommittees, she is in a key position to influence legislation impacting Wyoming's economy, infrastructure and quality of life.  Cubin also serves as Communications Chair of the Western Caucus, and is a Deputy Whip.

Cubin is widely viewed as a legislative expert in the field of energy and minerals, two industries that provide many jobs for Wyoming workers and form the base of the state's economy. She served on the board of the Minerals, Business, and economic Development Committee in the Wyoming House and in 1994 was named Wyoming's Legislator of the Year by the Edison Electric Institute. She has also served as vice chairman of the energy panel of the National Conference of State Legislatures and chaired the research arm of the Energy Council, an international organization of legislators in the United States and Canada.

In the US Congress, Cubin has consistently worked to reduce government waste and spending, lower taxes, and return power from the federal government to the States. She quickly emerged as a leader, serving as secretary of her freshman class and as a member of numerous task forces, causes and advisory boards.

Cubin has helped to enact welfare reform, healthy care reform, agriculture reform and telecommunications reform. She's worked to balance the federal budget, reduce the national debt and provide fair and responsible tax relief for working Americans and their families. Other priorities include protecting and preserving Medicare and Social Security, and improving our educational system.
